The role of endoscopic ultrasonography in patients with pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma remains a common problem with a poor prognosis. Accurate staging of pancreatic tumors is critical to allow patients to be appropriately referred for surgery, which is the most effective treatment for long-term survival. Endoscopic ultrasonography has emerged as a highly effective minimally invasive technique for detecting the presence of malignant lymphadenopathy and for assessing vascular tumor involvement.
